Solaris Bus & Coach sp. z o.o. focused on the development of electric vehicles as early as 10 years ago. Every day, hundreds of buses driving through the streets of cities in several European countries confirm the complete reliability of the electric drive.
Hydrogen technology is complementary to battery drives. The development synergy of all pillars of electromobility will accelerate the transformation of public transport to become completely emission-free. This is the key to ensure a safe and pleasant urban space in the future.
The Solaris Urbino 12 hydrogen is an emission-free bus powered by hydrogen fuel cells. This incredibly innovative vehicle offers a driving range of up to 350 km while preserving all the advantages of an electric motor. The bus is particularly characterized by low noise level and lack of vibrations during movement. Furthermore, the only product of the chemical reaction that takes place in a hydrogen fuel cell is water. Refilling time takes a few minutes, which will provide flexibility and elasticity to the vehicle operator.
The sharply delineated body line, comfortable interior and ecological drive guarantee a novelty in the industry as well as a unique travel experience not only for drivers but also for passengers. The premiere of this vehicle was held during the International Public Transport Association UITP in Stockholm on June 9-12, 2019.
Solaris presented its Urbino 18 hydrogen bus on September 14, 2022. The heart of the Urbino 18 hydrogen bus is a state-of-the-art fuel cell that acts as a miniature hydrogen-powered hydroelectric plant. The hydrogen is transformed by the fuel cell into electricity which is then transferred to the drive line.
Solaris' new vehicle does not have a conventional engine compartment as it is equipped with a modular drive system. The space thus saved allowed the bus manufacturer to increase the passenger capacity of the vehicle. Depending on the configuration, the bus will be able to transport up to 138 passengers.
